Lonar Crater
67Lonar crater is importent meteorological crater in india.Crater formed in balsalt rock 35 to 50 thousand ago.Initially people called volkanic crater.but in 1883 J. E. Alexander decleared as impact crater.this crater is just like arizona crater. except water in lonar crater.
lonar crater situated in buldana(my home town) district at lonar village.crater is 1.83 km in diameter and avarage 170m in depth and age is about 50000 yrs.
crater is 550 km from mumbai,160 km from auaragabad,100 km from buldana and 4 hour drive from ajanta caves. nearest railway station is mulkapur.
crater is importent for astronamer as well as travellar.there are two guest houses near the crater.
There are reverse magnetism at crater age,means magnetic campass shows south as north.
It is great expririence to see the crater at sunrise and sunset.
Recently scientist from India and Uk have identified the methane eating bac teria at lonar crater.The research team from the National Center for cell science Pune.tese methan eaters are likely to be reponcible for keeping natural methane emissions much lower than they would otherwise be.Methane eating bacteria ,in normal enviroments like wetland and paddy field are known ,but the problame with then is that they do not survive in extreme conditions like the ones found at lonar lake.This bacteria can be culturaed and used in places where methane is released.They can survive in both extreme as well as normal enviroment.Methane is second major greenhouse gas in atmosphere.

we r supposed to desined interpretation centre at lonar giving info abt crater
so if can u mail me plan and section of the crater , microclimate of the lonar

Recetly on feb 13 ,2010 a govt.meeting was held to develop lonar as a tourist place.gaurdian minister mr.naik,mp,jadhav mp. raimulkar mla. ,mr.shingane were present.New development comittee was formed ie. two mla.,mp,mr.bugdane,kharat,reporters,etc..The minister ordered the dept. to give new proposal for lonar development .all party members were present....(.news added by suresh chopane amateur astronomer, chandrapur)
Recently state govt.has ordered concerned authorities to develop lonar as a beautiful tourest place.I hope soon it will be a good place to visit and study.

Its better not to make it a tourist place. As we Indians doesnt know who to preserve and protect a tourist place.

Nature is a better banker than indian tourists, who dumps plastics and all sorts of wastes near the tourist spot.

Lonar is one of the gold for india. I am a Aquatic Enviroment Management student of Post gratuation in CIFE, Mumbai. I am from Mehkar which is nearer to lonar lake. It is graeat oppournity for me to do reserch on these lake. As a large reseach is going on on these topic and it suggest that it is one of the open laboratory for all scientist and to student to do research.

Hi Vasheela, Very interesting information but there are lots of spelling mistakes on your hubs. I think you should compose and check the spellings with Microsoft word and then post them.
